After wrestling with recordkeeping on his own family’s organic grain farm, our founder Matthew Fitzgerald decided it was time for a change. Existing software didn’t serve his needs as an organic farmer, but he needed to upgrade from his own system of spreadsheets. It was time for a new system: using a giant whiteboard and color-coded magnets, he laid out each week of the growing season in a chart that captured every farm field and task. 

With the entire season in front of them, the answer to “what do we need to do next?” was clear to the farm team. And it didn’t just make management easier - with the new system, Fitzgerald Organics recorded their highest-ever yield.

But the whiteboard was only a first step. Matthew wanted to create a digital version that he and his team could put in their pockets and access anywhere. Today, we’re proud to bring you the Farm Flow app: designed by a farmer, for farmers.
